How To Avoid Board Burnout

Board members of condo and homeowner associations carry a great deal of responsibility. They are the decision makers, and have a lot of duties that constantly need to be kept up with. This can become exhausting over time and can cause burnout. What are some things you can do to prevent feeling drained? Here are some tips:

Define Each Role and Establish Routine

Burnout often occurs for board members because they didn’t know the duties of the role, or the commitment of time. Making sure each role if defined will ensure that the board member will know what to expect in terms of time and bandwidth. Once roles are defined and understood, time management is key. Establish a routine and schedule for meetings and reports.

Create Committees

Forming committees is a great way to get other owners involved while taking some of the burden off the board. Committees can help with decision-making tasks such as social events, elections, maintenance/landscape, and more.

Hire a Property Manager

Condo and homeowner associations often hire a property manager or management company to take on the day-to-day operations and lessen the workload.
